Resting Securely Under His Watch

በሰላም እተኛለሁ እንቅልፍም እወስዳለሁ፥ አቤቱ፥ አንተ ብቻ ለብቻህ በተስፋ ታሳድርኸኛለህና።
Amharic — traditional Ethiopian rendering
Modern English
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.
King James Version (public domain)
There is a unique vulnerability that comes with the night. When the world grows dark and your senses are no longer occupied by the duties of the day, your anxieties have a way of surfacing. David’s declaration is a radical act of surrender; he acknowledges that his safety is not in his own strength, his walls, or his preparation, but solely in the hands of the Creator. You are invited to experience that same level of confidence. As you prepare for rest, release the need to orchestrate your life’s outcomes. You can close your eyes in peace because you know who is awake while you sleep. The Shepherd of your soul never slumbers. His presence is your security, creating a sanctuary where fear cannot penetrate. Trust that you are held in His strong, gentle grip, allowing you to find deep, restorative rest in His finished work.
Prayer
Lord, as I end this day, I lay down all my worries at Your feet. I trust that You are my only true safety. Grant me deep rest, knowing that You are watching over me and that I am secure in Your presence. Amen.
Today's declaration
I lay down in peace because the Lord alone keeps me in safety.
